How to furnish in perfect Shabby Chic style: our ideas

What are the right steps for a perfect Shabby Chic interior? Here are our tips!

If you are thinking of furnishing your home - or your environment - and you don't have the slightest idea how to do it, we can give you some advice. In this article we are going to talk about a style that we particularly love and with which you can have fun: Shabby Chic!

First of all... what is Shabby Chic?

If we talk about Shabby Chic furniture, what comes to your mind? When we think of the term "chic" we think of something simple, elegant, but the meaning of the English word "shabby" means something completely different, it means old and worn. Exactly... these are the two distinctive elements of Shabby Chic!

Shabby Chic furniture is characterised by vintage details, details that make the furniture look old and in a certain sense "lived in". Although it may not look like it at first glance, it is actually a style of furniture with a refined design and attention to detail.

When was the Shabby Chic style born?

Rachel Ashwell is the one who brought this style to life. As a huge fan of vintage and antiques, Ashwell took inspiration from several existing furniture styles and created a new one. She was inspired by the country style and Victorian style of the English and also the Gustavian e French Provençal.

The term was first coined by the magazine "The World of Interioris" in 1980. It is from then on that the Shabby Chic style has become world-famous, adapting to various individual tastes and also depending on economic possibilities.

True Shabby Chic or Shabby Chic style?

Another point in favour of this furnishing style is that it is suitable for all budgets! You can decorate your home in true Sh abby Chic style by recovering really old and worn furniture and furnishings, or in Shabby Chic style, using new furniture specially treated to reproduce the vintage and worn effect. Usually in the second case it is preferable to use a less valuable wood, precisely because it will be repainted and reworked.

What are the predominant colours of Shabby Chic?

The colours most commonly used in this style are light. We find white in different shades (from pure white to creamy white), ivory, but pastel colours such as rosy, light blue or even pearl grey are also very popular.

And let's not forget the colour black , which has started to become a popular choice for Shabby Chic furniture and which we particularly love. Black is a colour that has long been associated with refinement and elegance, giving an original and sophisticated touch to the environment - especially when combined with other colours in softer shades.

Our idea of Shabby Chic

For us, essentiality is the key to sophisticated yet cosy furnishings: a few pieces of furniture with an important visual impact.

In our collection Shabby Classic you will find lots of ideas for furnishing your room in perfect Shabby Chic style. All our furnishings are characterised by details in solid natural oak, specially brushed, giving the wood its typical aged look. The structures made of solid fir wood are lacquered and then worked to obtain the aged and "worn" finish on corners and edges.

The result is a furniture product with a classic flavour which, because of its almosttimelessshape, fits in well with the most diverse furnishing styles.

In the next article onShabby Chic we will tell you how to combine it with other styles without making mistakes!
